(Above) Sonshine Center Preschoolers, 1990 - The sounds of the season were provided in 1990 by Sonshine Center Preschoolers.  The group entertained residents of The Meadows in Clear Lake.  The children were under the direction of Lavonne Kacer, along with associates Darlene Crabb and Lavaun Wind.

Work is progressing on the new addition at Handicap Village.  In addition to increasing space for its administration offices, the Village is adding a greenhouse on the south side of its main building.  Snyder Construction is the contractor for the Village project, however, North Wood Construction is doing the greenhouse.

Grapplers finish week strong

Clear Lake wrestlers started the week slowly, but finished with a solid outing at a four-team tournament in Webster City.

The Lions opened the week at Iowa Falls-Alden for a North Central Conference match.  The Cadets recorded a 40-27 victory.

“We did not come ready to wrestle against Iowa Falls,” said Coach Gary Weber.  “Since that meet, the kids have really picked up their intensity.”

Baker claims championship at N-P Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 12.  Three individual wrestlers had a successful day, but as a team, the Cardinals struggled.

GHV placed sixth in the 10 team tournament with 91-points. MFL-Mar-Mac won the tournament with 236-points, followed by Nashua-Plainfield with 143-points.

“As a team we didn’t compete that well, as we had five open weights,” said Coach Cory Jenniges.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls dropped two Top of Iowa Conference match-ups last week, moving their record to 1-3 in the West Division.  The Cardinals are in a three-way tie for sixth place with Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme.
