Four Cardinals receive post-season honors

Softball coaches from the North Iowa Conference chose players for the All-Conference lists.  Garner-Hayfield-Ventura had four players that earned honors.

Sophomore Mackenzie Van Gerpen was named First Team All Conference.  Van Gerpen, who played third base for the Cardinals, had a batting average of .350 that included three home runs and 19 RBIs.

Changes to football playoff structure announced for 2016

The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control has voted to adopt a nine game regular season schedule and 16-team qualifier field for all football classes in the playoffs starting in 2016. The change means a reduction from 32 teams who currently qualify for the postseason in each class.

The schedules for this fall and the 2015 regular season and playoffs remain unchanged as previously published at www.iahsaa.org.

Pair of CLHS grads join incumbent Kuhlers on the ballot in Clear Lake

Three individuals will be running for three director at-large positions on the Clear Lake School Board this fall.

Incumbent Chad Kuhlers will be seeking a second term, while Dr. John Brady and Michael Moeller are first time candidates.  Brady, a physician with the Hancock County Health System, and Moeller, an attorney with the Sorensen Law Office in Clear Lake, are both graduates of Clear Lake High School.

New commerical charter boat will soon cruise Clear Lake

Clear Lake will soon have another commercial charter boat on its waters.

Mike Maulsby, owner of Clear Lake Boats, received permission from the Clear Lake City Council Monday night to locate a 44-passenger charter boat at the 16th Ave. S. public access.  The Council, on the unanimous recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Board, granted a permit to operate a commercial charter boat.
