When it rains, it pours. It rained much of two days during the 2015 state tournament. And then Newman Catholic, Clear Lake and Waverly-Shell Rock poured it on to win state championships. And Southeast Polk soaked up a second straight state title as well.

Lions set records on way to State title

Clear Lake scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning and coasted to a 20-1 victory over second seeded Davis County (26-8) in a Class 2A semifinal game Thursday night at the Iowa State Baseball Tournament played at Principal Park. The 20 runs scored and 19-run victory margin are all-time summer state tournament records, according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

GHV lands three on NIC lists

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had three players named to the North Iowa Conference All-Conference lists.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had three players named to the North Iowa Conference All-Conference lists.

Four Cardinals receive post-season honors

Softball coaches from the North Iowa Conference chose players for the All-Conference lists.  Garner-Hayfield-Ventura had four players that earned honors.

Sophomore Mackenzie Van Gerpen was named First Team All Conference.  Van Gerpen, who played third base for the Cardinals, had a batting average of .350 that included three home runs and 19 RBIs.
