Nice day at the Seawall in 1965

The sun finally shined in 1965 after a week of cloud, rain-filled days.  Scenes such as this were plentiful around the lake for most of the day.  After seven consecutive weekends plagued by inclement weather, Clear Lakers and resorters were ready for some long-awaited fun.

75 Years Ago May 1940

Ventura now has a population of 280.

Roscoe Miller has purchased from Mason’s Garage another milk truck similar to the one Mr. Miller has been driving this past year.

Clifford Hanson, of Clear Lake, received a compound fracture of the right leg Sunday afternoon in the jalopy race at the Mason City Fairgrounds.  His roaring machine was thrown over the race, caught fire and Hanson was taken to the Park Hospital.

Mrs. Willett Taylor and her mother, Mrs. Bieber, were overcome Friday by the smoke and gas coming from an asphalt mixer located near the electric depot.  The Taylor home is near and the wind in such a direction that the gases were carried where they were working outdoors.  They immediately became unconscious and it was some time before they were revived.

Fifteen new teachers will begin classes in Clear Lake’s school system for the 1965-66 term.  New teachers include John Angle, Leila Douglas, Larry Andreessen, Arlene Fritz, Daniel Moeller, Marilyn Stoa, Vicki Rakow, Pete Timmer, John Gilpin, Carol Magilton, Penelope Loman, and Helen Shudlik.

The new First Congregational Church building will be dedicated this Sunday.

50 Years Ago May 1965
