CLHS presents diplomas to 111

One hundred-eleven members of the Clear Lake High School Class of 2015 received their diplomas Sunday, May 17.

Senior speakers Lindsay Kearns and Lauren Hewitt encouraged their classmates to dream big, but remember the lessons learned at CLHS and the guidance they received from their teachers.

“Live the life you have always imagined,” Kearns said, smiling as she revealed a Superman T-shirt under her gown.

Haugland delivers Memorial Day address

Looking at his young family, Gabriel Haugland told those gathered for Memorial Day services at Clear Lake Cemetery Monday he knew his service in Afghanistan was necessary. “Don’t go daddy.  I need you,” his two-year-old daughter, Grace, had pleaded before he left.  He was also leaving behind his young wife, Carolyn, and an infant son, Nick.

New owners hope to enhance unique lake experience

The Lady of the Lake is sailing under new ownership this season.

Jon Berhow and Scott and Niki Monson have purchased the sternwheeler from Mike Royer and Rodger Nordman.  However, Royer and Nordman have agreed to stay on this season to handle driving and tour duties aboard the boat.

Berhow said he noticed a for sale sign on the boat last year and “knew he wanted to make it happen.”

The Ventura boys basketball team had a strong start to the 2011-12 with a huge conference win, but finished the week with two non-conference losses.

Peterson competes in State Cross Country Meet

    Clear Lake’s Trudy Peterson competed in the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 29, in Fort Dodge.  In her first State appearance, the Clear Lake sophomore recorded her best time ever and placed 52nd.

Lion volleyball team keeps showing improvement

Coach Scott Swenson is a believer.  
    “We believe that the teams that stay the course and continue to work the hardest, will have  good things happen for them,” said Swenson.   “We know sooner or later, all of a sudden, we will start to get the breaks.”

Rough week for the Clear Lake volleyball team

It was a rough week for the Clear Lake volleyball team, as North Central Conference foes Humboldt and Hampton-Dumont swept the Lions, then North Iowa teams battled at the Forest City Tournament.

Lady Vikes place fourth in own tournament

The Ventura volleyball team opened the 2011 season by hosting a tournament on Saturday, Aug. 27.  The Lady Vikes compiled a 2-3 record for the day and placed fourth out of eight teams.

Lions prove to be as hot as the weather
