     The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country program will be well represented at the State Cross Country meet to be held this weekend in Fort Dodge.

Lions hitting on all cylinders

    The Clear Lake Lions seem to be hitting on all cylinders -- and that’s important heading into arguably one of the biggest regular season games ever to be played at Lions Field.

Vikings fall to #2 rated Northeast Hamilton

  The Vikings traveled to Blairsburg on Friday night to take on number two rated Northeast Hamilton in a District three showdown.
    The Trojans scored on their first possession of the game for an 8-0 lead.  The rest of the quarter was a defensive struggle with neither team scoring for the remainder of the quarter.

Senior leadership and dedication to be key to Clear Lake X-C success

Clear Lake Cross Country Co-Coaches Lothar Meyer and Jerry Morris are excited to get the 2011 season off and running.  According to the longtime coaches, both harrier teams have good senior leadership and dedicated runners.

 

 

Lions earn runner-up honors in NCC

The Clear Lake baseball team earned a pair of North Central Conference victories last week which provided the Lions with a runner-up finish in the NCC final standings.  However, a loss to Central Springs ended the week on the downside.

Fueled by a hustle play from junior Pete Swenson, the Clear Lake boys secured a win over Gilbert Monday night and advanced in post-season tournament play.

Late in the game Swenson dove to make a steal and tipped the ball to teammate Spencer Davidson, who drove the floor and laid the ball in the basket, giving the Lions a

The Clear Lake boys pushed their record to 11-4 with a pair of wins last week.  The week also included a loss on the road to Fort Dodge St Ed’s.  The Lions now share a 10-4 mark in the North Central Conference with the Gaels.  Iowa Falls-Alden continues to lead the way at 12-2, followed by Humboldt at 11-3.

 

Girls come out on top of close battles

 

The Clear Lake girls pushed their record to 7-2 with a pair of wins coming off of the holiday break.  The Lions won close battles with Algona and Forest City.

Coach Bart Smith called the Lions’ win at Algona Friday the “biggest win of the season” for his team.

Four G-H/V wrestlers place at tournament

 

    The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wres-tling team had a busy week, wrestling at Central Springs on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at West Hancock on Thursday, Dec. 13, and competing in the Glenn Brand Tournament at Clarion on Saturday, Dec. 15.

At Central Springs, the Cardinals wrestled against Forest City and Central Springs in a triangular.  G-H/V dropped both matches. 

Area football players named to INA All-State teams

 

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2012 All-State Football selections Tuesday.  The elite lists included two Clear Lake and two Garner-Hayfield/Ventura players.

Clear Lake’s Bryson Hamilton was a 2nd Team selection among Class 3A players.  The 6’4”, 204-pound senior was named to the Second Team defense as a lineman.  Hamilton made 20 solo and 32 assisted tackles in Clear Lake’s 8-3 season.
