It takes dedication and hard work to compete as a Division I athlete, and no one knows more about those characteristics than Andrea Toppin.

Cardinals split games around holiday

 

The G-H/V baseball team had an up and down week.  The Cardinals split games with North Iowa foes before the holiday, then split a pair of games played at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo Monday, July 8.  The .500 week put the Cardinals at 10-16 overall.

Waldron and Fischels capture State Coed Golf Championship

 

Clear Lake’s Dane Waldron and Malorie Fischels captured the 2013 Class 1A State Coed Golf Championship held in Boone Tuesday, June 4.  The pair earned the title by four strokes with a score of (-1) 35. 

Approximately 58 pairings from the state competed in the tournament.  Clear Lake entered two teams, the 

Jones places eighth in Class 1A State Tennis Meet

 

Clear Lake’s Sam Jones earned an eighth place finish at the Class 1A State Tennis Meet played Friday and Saturday in Waterloo.

Jones, the only freshman in the Class 1A singles field, opened the tourney with a win over last year’s sixth place finisher, Will Hamilton, from Grinnell.  Jones pulled out a

The Clear Lake boys tennis team continued their winning ways in the post season.

Clear Lake traveled to Fort Dodge for boys Districts tennis action Thursday, May 9.  The Lions finished second as a team behind Fort Dodge St. Eds.  and the Lions’ top player, Sam Jones qualified for the State Meet with a second place finish in singles.

The Lions broke open a close game at the half and doubled the score on 10th ranked (2A) Webster City in a 4-2 game played April 30.

 

Cardinals earn runner-up honors at North Iowa Meet

 

  The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team earned runner-up honors on Friday, April 26, at the North Iowa Meet.  Lake Mills took home the championship with159 points.

“This was an important meet for us to play in, because the conference meet will be played at North Iowa,” said Coach Ken Krause.

Rounding out the team scores was North Iowa with 180 points and West Hancock with a 197.

Pair of wins for CL girls; top IF-A and Mason City

 

The Clear Lake girls tennis team opened the season with a pair of wins in matches against Iowa Falls-Alden and Mason City.

Calaguas to perform in Albert Lea Figure Skating show

 

Alexa Calaguas, a senior at Clear Lake High School, will perform a solo at the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club’s 52nd annual show March 23-24. The show, “Planes, Trains and Blades,” will take place at the Albert Lea City Arena.

Missed rebounds and free throws plague GHV girls

Poor rebounding and missed free throws cost the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls a win on Tuesday, Dec. 19, against Osage (3-0, 6-0).

“This game came down to two of the most important phases of the game, rebounding and free throw shooting.  We failed miserably in both areas and as a result we let this game get away from us,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.
