GHV wrestlers compete in St. Ansgar Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestlers competed in the St. Ansgar Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 7.  The team ended the day with a 2-2 record.

“We wrestled very well on Saturday,” said Coach Steve Smith.  “Tucker Datema wrestled a great match in the New 

Hampton dual.  For his first year out, he gave that kid everything he wanted.”

GHV bows out of playoffs in 34-13 loss

It was a tough way to end the season as the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (7-4) were eliminated in the first round of playoffs by the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks (9-1), 34-13. Big plays made the difference for the Nighthawks as both teams managed over 300 yards of offense.

Each of the Nighthawk touchdowns came from a play of more than 20 yards, making it difficult 

GHV cross country runners earn NIC recognition

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country team had a busy week, with a meet on Monday at Forest City, and the North Iowa Conference Meet on Thursday.

GHV/WH had six girls and five boys earn All-Conference recognition at the Conference Meet, and both teams finished with runner-up status behind Osage.  

CL volleyball team picks up impressive win

 

The Clear Lake volleyball team stormed back from an 0-2 start and recorded an impressive win over Bishop Garrigan, ranked 11th in Class 1A.  The Lions got the win on the road, 19-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 15-8.

GHV/WH captures two team titles; Toppin individual winner

 

The GHV/WH cross country teams proved to be forces to be reckoned with as  both teams brought home top honors from the Newman Catholic Meet on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

“I was very happy with the way both teams ran, their hard work during the summer showed,” said Coach Jeff Short.

The GHV/WH boys team captured first place in the 15-team field with 81 points.  Osage finished in second place, while Mason City, West Fork and Clear Lake took the other top five spots.

Cardinals split games around holiday

 

The G-H/V baseball team had an up and down week.  The Cardinals split games with North Iowa foes before the holiday, then split a pair of games played at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo Monday, July 8.  The .500 week put the Cardinals at 10-16 overall.

Waldron and Fischels capture State Coed Golf Championship

 

Clear Lake’s Dane Waldron and Malorie Fischels captured the 2013 Class 1A State Coed Golf Championship held in Boone Tuesday, June 4.  The pair earned the title by four strokes with a score of (-1) 35. 

Approximately 58 pairings from the state competed in the tournament.  Clear Lake entered two teams, the 

Jones places eighth in Class 1A State Tennis Meet

 

Clear Lake’s Sam Jones earned an eighth place finish at the Class 1A State Tennis Meet played Friday and Saturday in Waterloo.

Jones, the only freshman in the Class 1A singles field, opened the tourney with a win over last year’s sixth place finisher, Will Hamilton, from Grinnell.  Jones pulled out a

The Clear Lake boys tennis team continued their winning ways in the post season.

Clear Lake traveled to Fort Dodge for boys Districts tennis action Thursday, May 9.  The Lions finished second as a team behind Fort Dodge St. Eds.  and the Lions’ top player, Sam Jones qualified for the State Meet with a second place finish in singles.
