Lions roll over A-P, 4-1

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team got off to a fast start and went on to collect a 4-1 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 15.

The Lions jumped to a quick lead, scoring the first goal just :27 seconds into the match.  Carson Farmer made an attack up the right side line to the corner.  Farmer crossed the ball to the center of the field, finding Karlen Lu for the early score.  

Volunteers needed for Earth Day Run

 

The Earth Day 5k and 10k committee is looking for volunteers for the race on Saturday, April 13.  Race Course Marshals are needed to ensure runner's safety along the course and for directing runners through the course.  Volunteers must be 18-years or older.  A mandatory volunteers meeting will be held at 8 a.m. on race day at the Bandshell in City Park.  

Lions remain perfect with 82-63 win

The Clear Lake boys basketball team moved to 7-0 overall and in the North Central Conference with an 82-63 victory over Algona Friday, Jan. 3.

Lion grapplers win Webster City Tournament

The Clear Lake wrestling team went 4-1 and won the Webster City Dual Tournament Saturday, topping some large schools in the process.

“To beat Ankeny, 51-10, and Waterloo West, 49-25, is a real credit to our kids,” said Coach Gary Weber.  “We also beat a very good Webster City team, 33-23.   What I was most impressed with as a coach was all of our kids moving up a weight class to help the team win duals. They are very unselfish and team orientated, which is a real pleasure to coach.”

Cardinals bring home championships from home cross country meet

It was busy week of running for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams, as they competed in two meets.

CL volleyball team battles strong opponents

 

The Clear Lake volleyball program opened home play Thursday with a daunting task-- competing against the reigning Class 4A state champions, Charles City, and battling county rival Mason City.  The Lions made the most of the challenge.  They showed improvement from game one to game two in a 2-0 loss to the Comets, and battled to a 2-1 win over the Mohawks.

Sheakly and Kockler play in All-Star Series

 

Gavin Sheakley and Jerry Kockler, from the State Champion Clear Lake baseball team, were chosen by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association to participate in the group’s All-Star Series played Aug. 8-11 at Valley High School in West Des Moines and Principal Park in Des Moines. 

Cardinals drop two close games

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had a tough week, dropping two games by one run, to Central Springs and another to Emmetsburg.  The team was scheduled to play Central Springs on Saturday, July 13, but due to inclement weather, the game was moved to Monday, July 15 (results of that game will be published in next week’s edition of the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter).

The Cardinals came out strong against Central Springs on Tuesday, July 9, but couldn’t hold on to the momentum.
