Cardinals place third at West Hancock Meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team finished third in the seven-team West Hancock Meet held on Saturday, May 3, in Britt.

Clarion won the meet with 312 points, followed by Lake Mills with 325.  The Cardinals finished the meet with 346 strokes.

GHV boys soccer drops two

Hudson 2, GHV 0

 It was a tough road game for the Cardinals. They were blanked by Hudson, 2-0, on Monday, April 21.
 As a team, GHV took six shots and three shots on goal.  Teddy Zrostlik took four shots and one shot on goal.  Jack Bertilson and Allan Devora each had one shot.  Jimmy Ermer took two shots on goal.

 Goal keeper JJ Loschen had three saves and two goals scored against him.

Clear Lake boys tennis team opens with two wins

The Clear Lake boys tennis team recorded identical 7-2 victories over Iowa Falls-Alden and Mason City during their first week of action.

The Lions won four of six singles matches and swept the doubles on their way to a 7-2 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday, April 10.

Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football fans who are anxious to see the two teams face off in newly created Class 2A districts will have to wait until the final game of the 2014 regular season.

It was a very productive week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team, as they rolled over two North Iowa Conference opponents, bringing their record to 6-4 in conference play.

GHV cross country team makes school history

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura cross country teams stepped it up and got the job done Monday, Sept. 15, at the Ballard Meet. The boys team made school history by winning both the team and individual titles.
 Junior Chase Smith brought home the gold by finishing the race in 17:00. The team scored 48 points to lead the 12-team competition. Eagle Grove was second with 61 points and North Polk was third with 91 points.

Three Cardinals earn post-season honors

Three Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball players were named to the North Iowa Conference All-Conference teams.  
 Senior Maddie Tusha was named to the NIC’s First Team.  Junior Tiara Van Gerpen was named to the NIC Second Team, while Mallory Van Oort earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Cardinals end week on an upswing; pick up two wins

The week may have started off a little shaky for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team, but it ended on an upswing, as the Cardinals collected two wins and moved their record to 4-13.

Algona 14, GHV 0
GHV hosted Algona on Tuesday, June 17, where the Bulldogs shut out the Cardinals, 14-0.
The Cards only managed four hits, compared to Algona’s 14.
