Lions hitting their stride; team takes NCC title

Talk about peaking at the right time!

The Clear Lake boys golf team captured the North Central Conference Tournament title Wednesday and advanced to Districts with a runner-up finish at Friday’s Sectional Meet.  They advance to play in the 3A District at Waverly Municipal Golf Course Friday, May 23.  The top two teams in the District will advance to State.

“Its all about making putts and smart decision making at this point of the season and we are doing a good job of that,” said Coach Bart Smith.

Time to focus for CL boys golf team

The Clear Lake boys golf team spent much of last week on the links and Coach Bart Smith is challenging his players to begin to put all of their experience together heading into the post-season.

“We competed well in some of our tournaments and won a quad that we were suppose to win, but right now if we don’t turn

things around and start focusing on things that we have talked about to shoot lower, we are an average team that will stay home during State golf. Putting and chipping is why we haven’t improved our scores.”

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team hosted North Iowa on Monday, May 5.  Despite the Cardinals beating North Iowa, 218 to 237, Coach Todd Greiman was not happy with his team’s performance.

“I was very disappointed to see us finish with our worst score of the season on the nicest day to play,” said Greiman.  “It seemed that there were a lot of things going wrong with everyone’s game and we found ourselves getting penalty strokes that we usually don’t have.”
