Clear Lake wrestlers win NCC dual title

The Clear Lake wrestling team picked up two wins Friday night, and in doing so claimed a share of the North Central Conference dual meet title.  The Lions finished in a three-way tie with Webster City and Humboldt.  All three teams ended up 7-1 and will receive a trophy. 

GHV wrestlers compete at Algona Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestling team met some tough competition at the Algona Tournament held on Saturday, Jan. 18.

“We went 1-4 on the day, but I was pleased with the way we competed today,” said Coach Steve Smith. “The competition was tough there today, but each time out we look better and better, which is what we want.”

Both Nic Tusha and Cade Baker had good days for the Cardinals compiling 4-1 records.  AJ Arnold and Connor Smith both ended the day with 3-2 records.  

Clear Lake volleyball team experiencing ups and downs

Volleyball fans were treated to an exciting match when Clear Lake hosted Crestwood Thursday, Sept. 18.  Crestwood prevailed in a close match, 3-1.  Scores were 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23.

Three Cardinals earn spots on the NIC All-Conference lists

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had three players named to the North Iowa Conference All-Conference lists. Seniors Josh Theobald and Braden Meints were named NIC First Team, while fellow senior Spencer Shaw was named to the NIC Second Team. Cade Baker, a sophomore, earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Clear Lake girls end week on a high note

The Clear Lake girls ended the week on a high note after picking up back-to-back wins. The team is now 3-19 heading into the home stretch of the season.

The Clear Lake girls played their most complete game of the year and posted a 7-0 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Tuesday, May 20.

“The offense and defense worked very well together, passing was crisp and defense was solid,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.

Clear Lake girls end track season at District Meet

Clear Lake girls wrapped up their 2014 track season at the District Meet held at Nevada Thursday, May 15.  

“The girls put their best foot forward and came up a little short of where they wanted to be,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann.  The Lions were unable to advance any events to the State Meet.

CL soccer team improves to 5-1

Hudson defeated the Clear Lake girls using penalty kicks after sudden death overtime resulted in a 1-1 tie at the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Tournament held Saturday.  Hudson prevailed, 2-1, to capture the tournament title.  The Lions advanced to the title game with a 1-0 victory over hat GH/V.

A week of ups and downs for GHV girls soccer team

IF-A 4, GHV 3 (OT)

The GHV girls gave it their all, but came up just short, falling to Iowa Falls-Alden, 4-3, in overtime on Monday, April 21.

“Iowa Falls has a great, young team,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “I thought our strikers and mid-fielders did a good job keeping us in the game.”

Scoring one goal each for the Cardinals was Emily Spilman, Hannah Lau and Mackenzie Haag.

Spilman and Haag each had one assist.
