Lions move into baseball rankings

 

Four wins during the last week, including an impressive 12-2 victory over perennial Class 1A power Newman Catholic, vaulted the Clear Lake baseball team into the Class 3A rankings this week.  The 6-1 Lions debuted on the list, released Monday, at number three.  Sioux City Heelan sits in the number one spot, followed by Benton Community.

Diercks captures State title; Nosbisch reaches finals

 

Chandler Diercks said he was determined to grin and bear it.  And when it was over, the Clear Lake sophomore was grinning from ear to ear.  He had won the Class 3A long jump at the State Track Meet.

Momentous night for G-H/V girls soccer team

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team had a momentous night on Friday, May 10, as the team captured its first win in program history.  The Cardinals topped Humboldt, 2-1.

Kelly Babcock recorded the first goal of the game in the second half to put the Cards up 1-0. 

The Wildcats returned the favor shortly after that to knot the game, 1-1.

With less than six minutes remaining in the game, G-H/V’s Sarah Marmaro scored to give the Cardinals the 2-1 victory.

G-H/V girls fall to A-P in soccer showdown, 4-1

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team faced a tough foe when they met up with Aplington-Parkersburg on Thursday, April 25.  The Falcons defeated the Cardinals, 4-1.

Bri Bier scored G-H/V’s lone goal at 28:01 into the second half.  Bier had two shots on goal for the night.

Diercks and Nosbisch to compete in Drake Relays

 

Clear Lake track standouts Chandler Diercks and Connor Nosbisch have both qualified for the prestigious Drake Relays.

According to Coach AJ Feuerbach, Diercks has the third best jump in the state so far this year at 22’ 7” and will compete on Friday morning, April 26, at 9:30 a.m.

Former NIACC wrestling coach Kaye Young dies at age 78

 

The man who started the wrestling program at NIACC died Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Kaye Young, who started the wrestling program in the 1968-69 season and coached the Trojans until the program was dropped after the 1975-76 season, was 78.

Girls pour it on to defeat Algona

The Clear Lake girls basketball team poured it on down the stretch to defeat Algona, 67-50, Friday, Jan. 3.

Coach Bart Smith called his team’s performance a good game out of the break.

Cards crush competition

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team (3-2) picked up two wins in the North Iowa Conference by topping West Hancock and Belmond-Klemme last week.  

GHV 66, West Hancock 30

Patience and execution on offense led girls to a big win over West Hancock (0-1, 1-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 10.  The Cardinals, who shot 47 percent from the field, had no problem with the Eagles in the 66-30 romp.
