Lions blank Aplington-Parkersburg, 8-0

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team was too much for Aplington-Parkersburg Friday night.  The Lions blanked A-P, 8-0.

The Lions’ first score came in the seventh minute when Antonio DiMarco scored on an assist from Jack Abbas.  Jack Finn scored two-minutes later, assisted by a Carson Farmer throw in.  

Lions get track season underway

 

Clear Lake high jumper Sidney Borrill picked up a win and distance runner Sierra Greiman earned a pair of top three finishes at the Cardinal Relays held last week in Garner.  The Lions finished sixth in the field of 

eight with 71 points.  Eagle Grove won the meet with 107 points.

Lions top MC in boys soccer action

 

It took a bit to get going, but when they did the Clear Lake boys soccer team rolled past Mason City 5-1 Monday night, April 8.

Mason City scored the first goal of the contest in the 11th minute of the first half and that score stood until Clear Lake’s Antonio DiMarco tied the contest in the 25th minute on a penalty kick.  

Barragy strikes a perfect game

 

At 22, Chris Barragy has already achieved something many avid bowlers never get to experience-- perfection.

The Clear Laker recently threw a perfect game while competing in men’s league play at Mystic Lanes in Mason City.  

Clear Lake wrestlers move to 4-0 in NCC

A come-from-behind victory over Clarion-Goldfield Thursday keeps the Clear Lake wrestling team remains in first place in North Central Conference heading into the holiday break.

On the road at Clarion, the meet started at 145 and the Cowboys won the first three weights, opening up a 9-0 lead. 

Birthday boy Logan Wilcke got the Lions on the board with a 2-0 win. Connor Nosbisch won by major decision, pulling the Lions to within 9-7.  

GHV girls fall to West Fork in season opener

Sluggish defense caused problems for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls as they dropped the opening game of the season to West Fork, 49-37, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

“I expected our offense to struggle, but did not expect our defense to be as poor as it was,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.

The Warhawks came out ready to play and jumped to a 12 point lead in the first quarter.  The Cardinal defense made

It was definitely a treat for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team as they advanced in the Class 3A, Region 1 Semifinal on Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31.  The

GHV run game falls short in 28-8 loss

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (5-2) lost Friday night to South Central Calhoun (4-3) in a game where big plays made the margin. Each of the Titan touchdowns came on a passing play of 20 yards or more.

GHV volleyball team keeps rolling

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team kept things rolling last week, picking up a win against Belmond-Klemme and going 4-2 at the Bishop Garrigan Tournament.

Belmond-Klemme didn’t give the Cardinals too much trouble on Tuesday, Sept. 24, as GHV rolled in all three games, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-14.

“We knew BK was going to put up a tough block in the middle, so we focused on spreading out the offense,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team has hit the court at full steam, knocking off West Hancock and Clarion-Goldfield last week.
