NCC wrestling meet Saturday in Clear Lake

The North Central Conference wrestling tournament will be held this Saturday in Clear Lake. The meet starts at 10 a.m.; finals will be approximately 2:30. 

Clarion, the 2014 Class 1A state champion, is the favorite to capture the conference crown. Clear Lake, Humboldt, Webster City and Hampton are also expected to contend for the title. Algona, Iowa Falls 

and Ft. Dodge St. Edmond all have ranked wrestlers, but are not expected to be in the top four teams.

Ninth ranked W-SR defeats CL girls

Ninth ranked (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock used a big second quarter to defeat the Clear Lake girls, 56-42, in a game played Saturday, Dec. 20.  The loss put the Lions’ record a 4-3 heading into the holiday break.

GHV girls start season with a 3-0 record

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls started the 2014-15 season with a bang, jumping out to a 3-0 start.

CL girl’s BB team to participate in Iowa Pride Challenge Nov. 18

This year the Clear Lake High School Girls Basketball team has been awarded an Iowa Pride Scrimmage that will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The scrimmage is part of the Iowa Pride Challenge, in which schools participate in a local community service project of their choosing.

Cardinals dominate tournament

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura dominated its own tournament on Saturday.  The Cards defeated Central Springs 2-1 (21-11, 19-21, 15-9), Newman Catholic 2-0 (21-17, 21-17); Northwood-Kensett 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and North Iowa (21-13, 21-12) on their way to the championship match.  

 

Titan Pro looks to expand in Industrial Park

The Clear Lake Planning and Zoning Commission was scheduled to consider a proposed 50,000 square foot addition Tuesday night to the Titan Pro Inc. company located in the Larry Luker Memorial Industrial Park.

Six-day celebration will include presidential candidates in parade

 

Clear Lake’s traditional Fourth of July parade will also have traditional guests-- presidential candidates.
    The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has received word that three Republican candidates for the presidential race will walk in Monday’s 10 a.m. parade.

GHV boys go 1-2 in recent soccer action

Despite playing hard and recording some close games, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team could only manage one win in soccer action last week, while dropping two.

Bad weather didn’t hamper the Cardinals as they picked up a 4-2 victory over CAL on Monday, May 18

“We played well and the boys finally ended their losing streak,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “I was really proud of the way we played.  It was also a lot of fun playing every athlete on the bench.”

GHV girls remain focused

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team is remaining focused and has been breaking personal and season best performances, which is exactly what Coach Dyan Childress wants to see at this point in the season.

“Next week we are headed into the biggest week of the season.  The girls are excited to go all out and see what we can do at the conference and district meets,” said Childress.
