CL soccer boys tops three ranked teams

The Clear Lake boys soccer team moved up a spot in the rankings this week after topping three ranked teams and giving impressive performance at the highly-regarded Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament.  The Lions are now ranked fourth in Class 1A with a 8-2 record.  Their next match is Monday, May 18, at home against Mason City.  It will be Parent/Senior Night.

Jones racks up team points for CL girls

The Clear Lake girls track team finished fifth at the Indian Relays held at Forest City Tuesday, April 28.   Algona ran away with the team title with 178 points.  Iowa Falls was second with 102 and Central Springs and Forest City followed with 101 and 88.  

Freshman Lexi Jones had a pair of first place finishes in field events for the Lions.  She won the high jump by clearing 5’ and the long jump with a mark of 15’4”.

Lion golf team faces tough competition at Spencer Invitational

CL 155, GHV 174, Newman 179

Dane Waldron fired a 36 to lead Clear Lake (155) to a triangular win over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (174) and Newman (179) at Highland Park in Mason City Tuesday, April 14. 

Waldron was three shots better than teammate Thomas Storbeck for the medalist honors.  The Lions’ other three golfers, Jon Carew, Kyle Calaguas and Tanner Storbeck all finished in a tie for third in the medalist race with 40s. Anthony Piscopo also competed for the Lions and had a round of 41.

Lions claim runner-up honors at Cowboy Relays

The Clear Lake boys raced to a runner-up finish at the Cowboy Relays held Friday in Clarion.  A disqualification in the 4 x 200 proved costly for the Lions, as they finished second in the 2A division to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 121 to 116. Forest City was third with 104 points.

“They beat us by five, but we still had a very good meet,” said Lions Coach A.J. Feuerbach.

Faber named to INA All-State Girls BB Team

Clear Lake's Kaye Faber has been named to the Iowa Newspaper Association's 2015 All-State Girls Basketball Team.  Faber, a 5'11" senior, was selected as a member of the Class 3A Third Team.

Cardinals top Osage; fall to Algona

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team picked up a win and loss in action played last week.  The Cardinals moved their record to 14-4 in the North Iowa Conference and 15-5 overall.

Consistent scoring by the Cardinals led to a 41-33 victory against Osage on Tuesday, Feb. 3.   

NCC wrestling meet Saturday in Clear Lake

The North Central Conference wrestling tournament will be held this Saturday in Clear Lake. The meet starts at 10 a.m.; finals will be approximately 2:30. 

Clarion, the 2014 Class 1A state champion, is the favorite to capture the conference crown. Clear Lake, Humboldt, Webster City and Hampton are also expected to contend for the title. Algona, Iowa Falls 

and Ft. Dodge St. Edmond all have ranked wrestlers, but are not expected to be in the top four teams.

Ninth ranked W-SR defeats CL girls

Ninth ranked (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock used a big second quarter to defeat the Clear Lake girls, 56-42, in a game played Saturday, Dec. 20.  The loss put the Lions’ record a 4-3 heading into the holiday break.

GHV girls start season with a 3-0 record

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls started the 2014-15 season with a bang, jumping out to a 3-0 start.

CL girl’s BB team to participate in Iowa Pride Challenge Nov. 18

This year the Clear Lake High School Girls Basketball team has been awarded an Iowa Pride Scrimmage that will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The scrimmage is part of the Iowa Pride Challenge, in which schools participate in a local community service project of their choosing.
