Jones racks up team points for CL girls

The Clear Lake girls track team finished fifth at the Indian Relays held at Forest City Tuesday, April 28.   Algona ran away with the team title with 178 points.  Iowa Falls was second with 102 and Central Springs and Forest City followed with 101 and 88.  

Freshman Lexi Jones had a pair of first place finishes in field events for the Lions.  She won the high jump by clearing 5’ and the long jump with a mark of 15’4”.

CL boys finish strong at Bulldog Relays

The Clear Lake boys finished fourth in a closely contested team race at the Osage Boys Invite held Tuesday, April 28.  Charles City was the team champion with 118.5 points, edging New Hampton with 11, Osage with 99 and Clear Lake with 88 points.  Forest City (76), Saint Ansgar (60.5) and Riceville (5) competed the field.

CL boys tennis team rolls over A-P

The Clear Lake boys tennis team rolled over Aplington-Parkersburg in dual meet competition last week and a handful of Lions players took part in the Mason City Invitational.

The Lions won five of six singles matches and swept doubles play for a lopsided win over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday, April 27.  

Busy week for GHV girls track team

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team is reaching goals and making new ones as they head into the second half of the season.

Lake Mills Meet

The Cardinals traveled to Lake Mills on Monday, April 27, to kick off one of three track meets held last week.  GHV finished in sixth place out of seven teams with 40.5 team points.  Saint Ansgar won the meet with 126 points.

Taylor Vossberg was the highest placing Cardinal with a second place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5’0.

GHV girls win home quadrangular

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team picked up two wins and dropped one dual meet in action this week.

Eagle Grove 213, GHV 218

On Monday, April 27, the girls had a rough night and came up four strokes short as they lost to Eagle Grove. The Eagles finished with 213, while the Cardinals had 218.

GHV boys golf team finishing in the middle of the pack

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team has been coming up as the middle man in recent link action.

EG 172, GHV 176, W-H 197

On Monday, April 27, the Cards were runners-up with a 176 behind Eagle Grove who scored 172.  West Hancock was third with a 197.

Jacob Grandgeorge was the meet medalist with a 34.  GHV’s Braeden Johnston was the runner-up with a 42.

GHV’s other low scores came from Ryan Grunwald with a 44, and Matthew Heineman and Jordan Babcock both shot 45s.

Council sets public hearing for Kwik Star

The Clear Lake City Council will hold a public hearing May 18 regarding a development agreement with a Wisconsin-based company who is planning to construct a new convenience store and truck center. 

Kwik Star/Kwik Trip expects to break ground this week on a $10 million project on Highway 122, just east of Interstate 35.

Mercy Family Clinic-Clear Lake collects donations for Nepal Relief Fund

Mercy Family Clinic – Clear Lake is accepting donations of household items and necessities to send to the Nepal Relief Fund for victims of the April 25 earthquake. Items can be dropped off at the clinic, 1410 6th Ave. S., in Clear Lake, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 22. 

CLHS students use talents to meet challenge posed by library

Clear Lake High School students from Graphic Design classes recently helped to solve a real life challenge in their community.  

The Board of the Friends of the Clear Lake Public Library sought suggestions from two Graphics Arts classes along with their instructor, Shirlee Taylor.  The library was in need of a new design that would draw patrons to their online resources.  They would like to increase the use of downloadable music, magazines, e-books and other electronic programs free to patrons of the library.
