Chandler Diercks has become Clear Lake High School’s first athlete to win two Drake Relays titles.  The Clear Lake senior jumped 22’8.5” Friday to capture his second straight title.  His winning margin was more than a half-foot in damp conditions in Des Moines.

“There was definitely a lot of pressure to repeat. I had to keep my head up and do what I do and perform,” said Diercks.  “It’s a blessing and an honor.”

Diercks has committed to take his considerable talents to Iowa State University in the fall. 

GHV girls top Clear Lake in soccer action

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura edged the Clear Lake girls soccer team, 1-0, in a game played Thursday, April 23.  The win was the first in 11 outings for the Cardinals against the Lions.

CL tennis team tops Webster City; falls to Boone

The Clear Lake girls tennis team is now 5-2 after splitting a pair of matches last week.  The Lions topped Webster City, 8-1, on Tuesday, April 21, then dropped their first-ever meeting with Boone, 7-2, on Thursday, April 23.

CL boys golf team faces tough competition

The Clear Lake boys golf team put their game up against some of the best teams in Iowa and Minnesota last week.

Garrigan 175

Tanner Storbeck paced the Clear Lake boys and earned medalist honors in a very competitive triangular played Tuesday at Spring Valley against Algona Garrigan and Esterville- Lincoln Center.  ELC finished one stroke better than Clear Lake, 172-173, while Garrigan finished with 175.

Cardinals pick up two big soccer wins

It was an exciting week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team, as they picked up two big wins.

GHV 5, Hudson 4

The Cardinals pulled it all together on Monday night, April 20, and put together a 5-4 victory over Hudson.

GHV competes at H-D

It was a middle of the road kind of night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team when they competed in the Hampton-Dumont Boy’s Invitational on Monday, April 20.  The Cardinals finished in the middle of the eight team meet with 90 points.  The Denver Cyclones won the meet with 150 points, followed by Aplington-Parkersburg with 147 and Clarion-Goldfield with 95.

Ezra Marroquin was the only Cardinal to claim a win.  Marroquin won the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.13.

Ernie Mizsewski recorded two assists and scored three goals to lead the Clear Lake boys soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday, April 23.

Lions claim runner-up honors at Lynx Relays

Despite challenging weather, the Lions set several personal bests and finished as runner-up in the team standings at the Lynx Relays held Tuesday, April 21, in Webster City.  Humboldt took the team title with 106 points, followed by Clear Lake with 93 and Pocahontas Area with 89.  The host Lynx were a close fourth in the eight-team field with 86 points.

Clear Lake and GHV to be represented at Drake Relays

A pair of Clear Lake athletes, as well as one from Garner-Hayfield/Ventura will compete at the prestigious Drake Relays this weekend.

Chandler Diercks will return to Drake seeking to become a two-time winner in the long jump.  The CLHS senior has the top jump in the state so far this year at 23’8.5”.  Diercks won at the Drake Relays in 2014 with a leap of 23’10”,  just one and three-quarters of an inch 

Lions claim runner-up honors at home meet

Algona was the class winner of the eight-team field at the Lions Relays held Tuesday, April 14, in Clear Lake.  The Bulldogs ran away with the team title, amassing 196 points. Runner-up Clear Lake had 81 and Osage was third with 66.
