Armand F. Oetken

Armand F. Oetken, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.

Alice L. Monson

Alice Louise Monson, 81, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  Alice gave in death as she gave in life; she was a tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.   

The family suggest memorials to The Humane Society of North Iowa. 

Marjorie Watson

Marjorie Jean Suttcliffe Treu Watson passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2015 at home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, surrounded by family.  

Margie was born in Clear Lake on May 5, 1929, to Harold and Letty Sutcliffe and was the youngest of four sisters.  She grew up during the height of the great depression and often related stories of hardship and hunger from her early childhood.  When in high school she met the love of her life, Gaylord Beryl Treu.

Mystery company countdown: One month until reveal

The countdown is on for the announcement of the $65 million warehouse and distribution center under construction in Clear Lake’s Industrial Park.  

Chad Schreck, executive director of the North Iowa Corridor EDC, told the Clear Lake City Council Monday night that the company plans to reveal its identity in one month.

Schreck, along with Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb and City Administrator Scott Flory recently visited Windmill Realty officials at one of their business sites similar to the one under construction in Clear Lake.  

Veterans Memorial Golf Course reports strong 2014, steady future

Twenty-fourteen was a very good year for Veterans Memorial Golf Club.

In its fourth year since being taken over by the City of Clear Lake, the nine-hole golf course continued to show an increase in net income and achieved significant milestones.

Lawsuit filed against Clear Lake School District will go to trial in 2016

A lawsuit filed by the mother of an injured Clear Lake football player against the Clear Lake Community School District has been set for March 15, 2016. 

A court scheduling order filed Thursday states the trial is expected to last four to five days. 

Roxanne Hasfjord filed the lawsuit on behalf of her son, Austin, in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

The sixth annual “The Jack” Helgren Memorial Iowa Lemans Championship drew a large audience and number of participants to Clear Lake State Park 

NCC wrestling meet Saturday in Clear Lake

The North Central Conference wrestling tournament will be held this Saturday in Clear Lake. The meet starts at 10 a.m.; finals will be approximately 2:30. 

Clarion, the 2014 Class 1A state champion, is the favorite to capture the conference crown. Clear Lake, Humboldt, Webster City and Hampton are also expected to contend for the title. Algona, Iowa Falls 

and Ft. Dodge St. Edmond all have ranked wrestlers, but are not expected to be in the top four teams.

Lions remain perfect in NCC

The Clear Lake boys suffered a pair of non-conference losses last week, but bounced back with a win over North Central Conference rival Webster City to go 7-4 overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in the NCC.
