Lions face RRMR in Hall of Pride Scrimmage

The Lions tuned up for the 2014 season with a scrimmage against Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Tuesday, Nov. 18.  Proceeds from the event went to local charities (see related story in this edition).

 

Sally L. Bell

Sally L. Bell, 62, of Clear Lake, died from a bicycle accident on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

A gathering of friends was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Lampost Theater at the Hub, Clear Lake. A time of sharing and celebrating of her life was held with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating. Memorials in Sally’s name may be made to either Patriots for Pets or the Humane Society of North Iowa. 

Rosemary Staudt

Rosemary Staudt, 79, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street E., Rockwell, with the Rev. Rodney Allers, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty, Iowa.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Rockwell.

Amy J. Wolff

Amy Joanne (Eckholt) Wolff, 43, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Brian Harris officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to National Kidney Foundation.

Kay F. Carrott

Kay Frances (Steelman) Carrott, 75, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manly, Iowa.  

A memorial service was held on Nov. 21, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard, Chaplin of Hospice of North Iowa officiating.  Inurnment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Santa’s House is latest collectible ornament

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the latest edition to its Historical Ornament Series-- Santa’s House at City Park.  The ornament is available now for $19 at the Chamber of Commerce office, 205 Main Ave., through its online gift shop, or at select local retailers.

Bicyclist, driver die in separate collisions

It was a deadly week on Clear Lake area roads.

Thursday morning, Nov. 20, a Clear Lake woman was killed when the bike she was riding collided with a flat bed truck north of Ventura.

Reporter office closed Friday

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter office, 12 N. 4th St., will be closed Friday, Nov. 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.  

The office will re-open Monday, Dec. 1.  Friday’s closing does not affect deadlines for the next issue of the newspaper.

District will upgrade fleet with three buses; Substitute teacher service makes report

 Purchase of three school buses was approved at Monday night’s Clear Lake School Board meeting.
District leaders considered two different options to upgrade its aging fleet of buses. Ultimately the Board was to buy a new 77-passenger bus and two formerly leased 77 and 65 passenger buses. The cost for the three buses will be $207,600, however the District will trade in vehicles worth $45,000 to drop the cost to $162,600.
