Minnesota man enters plea agreement in assault

A Minnesota man charged with first-degree kidnapping and attempted murder after an assault in Clear Lake earlier this year has entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to lesser charges. 

Albert Mesenbrink, 62, of Vadnais Heights, Minn., was charged on April 24 after an alleged assault of a Clear Lake woman on Easter Sunday. 

GHV School Board to vote on school building use Dec. 8

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura School Board plans to make a final decision on which grade levels will be housed at the consolidated district’s two elementary buildings when they hold their December school board meeting.  

The board asked the administrative team from the two schools for a recommendation, based on the best educational setting for all students.  The team’s recommendation was to have the elementary building in Garner be a pre-kindergarten to grade four building and the elementary building in Ventura to house grades five and six.

The Giving Tree is ready to spread some holiday cheer

For a quarter of a century, the Giving Tree has helped to make the holidays a little brighter for Clear Lake area families.   The 25th annual Giving Tree is now on display in the Mirror-Reporter office.

Sign-up forms for the Giving Tree have been distributed in the Clear Lake School District.  They were also sent home with Ventura Elementary School students, as well as those attending Head Start and Lake Town Charlie Brown.

Kathy Becker

Kathy (Johnson) Becker, 73, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at Hospice of North Iowa.

  A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 508 2nd North Ave., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating. Burial will be at Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. 

Harriet Krutsinger

Harriet Kay Krutsinger, 77, 309 N. 10th St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

     A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Evangelical Free Church, Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, with Pastor Randy Vaage officiating.  Inurnment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Victor E. Pinke

Victor Earl Pinke, 82, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at the Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake, after a brave battle with brain cancer.

A memorial service and celebration of his life was held on Monday, Nov. 10, at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake, with Pastor Dan Jordan officiating. Military honors were conducted by members of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
