Kevin Hansen

    Kevin C. Hansen, 56, of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. 
    An informal celebration of his life was held Sunday, April 29, at the The Other Place, Clear Lake. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a memorial visitation with family was held Thursday, April 26 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

Gerald Gordon

    Gerald T. Gordon, 71, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  A visitation was held Monday afternoon, April 30, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Monday.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the American Diabetes Association, 2600 72nd St. Suite 0, Urbandale, Iowa 50322.

Eleanora Schroeder

    Eleonora “Nora” Marie  Schroeder, 90, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.   A funeral service was held Saturday, April 28, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,  Mason City, Iowa with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Memorials may be designated to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the NIACC Education Foundation; c/o Charles Schroeder, 10 Willow Dr., Mason City, IA 50401.

    Mary E. Goranson, 89, of 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. CL Girls golf team captures NCC Dual Meet title

The Clear Lake girls golf team captured the North Central Conference dual meet title and recorded a big non-conference win over last year’s 3A State Champion Charles City.

    Clear Lake topped Bishop Garrigan 174-180 in a North Central Conference dual meet played Monday, April 23, at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Clear Lake.

Wins keep accumulating for CL girls soccer team

Coach Lothar Meyer said his team is just getting better and better heading into May.  The Lions ended April with a pair of shutout wins. This week the Lions play four matches in eight days, which Coach Meyer said will test his teams’ improvement level.

Hard-fought victory for CL boys soccer team

        The Clear Lake boys soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over in a match played Monday night, April 23, in Humboldt. 
The varsity teams were tied at 1-1 at the half and knotted at 2-2 in the 29th minute, but Clear Lake pulled out the win 3-2 with five-minutes remaining.

Tennis team drops a pair of matches

     The Clear Lake girls tennis team dropped a pair of matches last week.  Monday, the team lost a close 5-4 decision to Osage.  The next day Charles City provided stiffer competition, 8-1.  Clear Lake has three meets this week.  Monday the Lions were at Iowa Falls Alden and Tuesday they were at Charles City. 

Lady Vikes place second at Lake Mills Meet

    Small in numbers, but big in talent is the best way to describe the Ventura girls track team.  The team has been putting that talent to good use, as they continue to pick up plenty of first place medals and some high team placements in area track meets.

Faught leads CL girls track team with two wins

    Steph Faught was a double winner for the Clear Lake girls at the Indian Relays run Tuesday, April 24, in Forest City.  She helped the Lions to a third place finish among Class A teams.  Algona won the division with 204 pints, followed by Forest City with 142 and Clear Lake with 101.  Iowa Falls-Alden was fourth with 98 points and Central
