A market rate rental housing project planned in Clear Lake has been awarded a $195,600 Workforce Housing Tax Credit.

Awards totaling almost $10 million were announced by Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) for 19 housing projects across the state.

Striking a balance for new city dock use may be challenging

(Above) The new floating dock in front of the Sea Wall has been a popular addition this summer.  The city is now working to strike a balance of use for the dock.  An early draft of an ordinance limits public use for boats to tie up to the dock at three hours; 30-minutes for commercial vessels and only one watercraft from a commercial business at a time.-Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.

Wellness Center project open for bids

Members of the Clear Lake School Board and City Council reviewed plans at their respective meetings for the $11.5 million Wellness Center which they are partnering to build.

Representatives of Atura Architecture, Clear Lake, provided drawings, cost estimates and even a virtual tour to representatives, who enthusiastically endorsed the ideas.

Minert withdraws from County Recorder race

Businessman Steve Minert, who co-owns the Harley-Davidson dealerships in Mason City and Charles City, announced Tuesday that he is “postponing” his candidacy for public office.

“There’s a new CEO at Harley-Davidson, Inc., in Milwaukee, and since announcing my candidacy for county Recorder, our dealership’s sales territories are being expanded,” Minert told reporters.  “There’s just not enough time, at this juncture, for me to campaign for, and serve in, this elected position.”
