Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is now on display at the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter office at 12 N. 4th St.

For more than a quarter of a century the Giving Tree, a collaboration between the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter and Clear Lake Community School District, has helped to make the holidays a little brighter for Clear Lake area families.

Doug Munn knows it takes a special mindset to be a wrestler.  Now, he’s learning the same holds true to be a wrestling coach.

Lions land 14 players on First Team All-District

Clear Lake’s superiority in Class 2A District 3 was recognized with 14 First Team All-District selections.  In addition, the team’s coach, Jared DeVries, was named Coach of the Year; Quarterback Jaylen DeVries was chosen as Offensive MVP; Jack Barragy was picked as Defensive MVP; Ryan Thomas was tagged as the district’s Lineman MVP.

Merfeld and Eden named to All North Central Conference teams

Clear Lake’s Julia Merfeld and Delaney Eden have been named to the North Central Conference’s All-NCC teams.

Merfeld, a senior leader for the Lions, was named to the All-NCC Second Team as a setter.  She ranked third among NCC players in assists.  Merfeld made 145 assists in 20 sets for an average of 7.25 per test.

Ryan Wise was enjoying the favorite part of his job Friday.  The former teacher, who now heads the Iowa Department of Education, made a stop in Clear Lake on his continuing quest to visit each of the state’s school districts.
