Slates finalized for School Board vote

Three persons will be vying for two seats on the Clear Lake School Board in the Sept. 12 school election.

Chyrl Bergvig will be seeking her second term on the Board, while Anthony Brownlee and Rick Knudson are running for an elected position for the first time.  Mark Tesar, who served on the Board from 2004-2006 and again from 2010-2017, has decided not to seek re-election.

At 11-years-old, Avah Hogg is jumping into the world of baking, and blowing away her family and friends with her quickly developing skills.

“My family hates to bake, so whenever I wanted something, I’d have to bake it myself,” Avah said.

After watching some cake decorating videos on YouTube, Avah decided that she would like to start baking and decorating various desserts to see what she could do.

“She’s always trying something new,” Avah’s mother, Amy Hogg said.

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter is giving away tickets to the 2017 Minnesota Renaissance Festival over the next few weeks.

An advertisement in this week’s paper features a photo taken somewhere in the Clear Lake area. Correctly identify the location and return the entry to the Mirror-Reporter.  Limit two tickets per family.  Each ticket is valued at $23.95.

Betty Elaine Bickford, 92, of Faribault, Minn., formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minn.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
