GHV runners off to the blue oval

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team qualified three individuals to compete on the blue oval at the State Track meet this week.  The Cardinals hosted the Class 2A Qualifying Track Meet on Thursday, May 11.

Reece Smith, a sophomore, will be competing in both the 1600 and the 3200 meter runs.  Smith won both of the events. He clocked 4:28.85 in the 1600 meter run and 10:02.40 in the 3200.

Sharon L. Lindsay, 67, of Clear Lake, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.

Per Sharon’s wishes, her body has been cremated.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at The Dock, 500 Main Ave., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

David Gerard Knipper, 56, of Marion, Iowa and formerly of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, from complications of Angiosarcoma of the liver diagnosed December 2016.  When Dave was diagnosed with cancer he didn’t let that cancer rule him. He ruled it. Dave’s ‘herd was formed’ and helped him work through his bucket list, and supported him through his journey.

Joy Jeanette (Harrington) Nelson, 88, of Clear Lake, formerly of Mason City, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, in Rockwell, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Dan Jordan officiating.  Burial was in the Britt Cemetery.

  Family suggests memorial contributions to the Joy Nelson Memorial Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m., at the Sullivan Brothers Veterans Museum at the Grout Museum in Waterloo, Iowa, with a reception following.

Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Center for the Arts, the Iowa Architectural Foundation or Central Gardens in Clear Lake.

Dale Eugene Kjellsen, 64, of Ventura, died Friday, May 5, 2017 in Clear Lake, while working on one of his inventions.

According to his wishes, he was cremated and a celebration of his life will be held later this year.  Family suggests memorials for the upcoming Celebration of Life be sent in care of Warp Drive Inc., 1207 Highway 18 E., Ventura, IA 50482.
