(Above) Santa had a lap full in 1966 - Santa Claus arrived in Clear Lake at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1966 on a fire truck.  He maintained his headquarters in a heated mobile home at 4th and Main Ave. from 1-6 p.m. every day except Saturday when his hours were 1-8 p.m.  Tom Richey had been Santa’s helper in Clear Lake since 1957 and he was over 90 years old.

Lions win in OT on buzzer beater three-point shot

For the second time in four games, the Clear Lake boys rose to the challenge of overtime.  The Lions used a buzzer beater from Zach Lester to defeat Algona, 75-74, Friday night, Dec. 9.

The victory put the Lions at 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Central Conference.

Lion wrestlers face some tough competition

Clear Lake wrestlers took on top competition from within the North Central Conference, as well as the State, in a busy week.

“As a team we improved greatly,” said Coach Mike Lester.  “It’s tough to lose those close ones, but this team is a bunch of scrappers and that is what we did.  They fought and wrestled with intensity.”

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys picked up two big wins last week, moving their record to 4-0, 4-1.

GHV 75, West Hancock 47

The GHV boys came out strong and finished strong in a 75-47 romp over West Hancock (1-2, 2-2) at home on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
