The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls basketball team split a pair of games last week to two Top of Iowa Conference opponents.  The Cardinals now have a record of 2-2, 3-3.

West Hancock 73, GHV 50

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Nashua-Plainfield tournament on Saturday, Dec. 10.  The Cardinals placed ninth with 54.5 points.  MFL-Mar-Mac won the team title with 195 points.

Conner Shaw was the lone champion for the GHV.  Shaw won the 170-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Hudson’s Taylan Entriken.

The ice on Clear Lake was officially called “in” on Dec. 8, 2016 by Paul J. Fredriksen, superintendent of the Clear Lake Water Department.

The date appears to be about average for the winter occurrance.  According to city records, the latest date on record for the lake to be declared iced-in is Dec. 24, 2001.  The earliest date on record is Nov. 4, 1991, which many recall as the year of the Halloween blizzard.
