Cardinals roll over competition

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys picked up two big wins last week, moving their record to 4-0, 4-1.

GHV 75, West Hancock 47

The GHV boys came out strong and finished strong in a 75-47 romp over West Hancock (1-2, 2-2) at home on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Shaw crowned champion

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Nashua-Plainfield tournament on Saturday, Dec. 10.  The Cardinals placed ninth with 54.5 points.  MFL-Mar-Mac won the team title with 195 points.

Conner Shaw was the lone champion for the GHV.  Shaw won the 170-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Hudson’s Taylan Entriken.

We’re iced in!

The ice on Clear Lake was officially called “in” on Dec. 8, 2016 by Paul J. Fredriksen, superintendent of the Clear Lake Water Department.

The date appears to be about average for the winter occurrance.  According to city records, the latest date on record for the lake to be declared iced-in is Dec. 24, 2001.  The earliest date on record is Nov. 4, 1991, which many recall as the year of the Halloween blizzard.

Clear Lake man asks judge to review sentence

A Clear Lake man convicted of going on a crime spree in  2014 was back in court Monday, Dec. 12, arguing that his sentencing was illegal.
