One week ago we were making a plea for help in order to fulfill the wishes of more than 75 Clear Lake families requesting a little help to make their Christmas season a little brighter.

Marilyn T. Meinecke, 62, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later time at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa.

Marilyn T. Meinecke, 62, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.   Memorial Mass will be 11 am on Tuesday, December 6 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.  Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 pm at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then one hour before the service at the church.

Darwin “Dar” “Poppy” Hughes, 70, of Wyoming, Minn., and Ventura, Iowa, a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and proud veteran, passed away on Nov. 11, 2016 at the home of his daughter, Pam.

A celebration of Darwin’s life was held at Roberts Family Life Celebration Home, Forest Lake, Minn. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Hughes Foundation, Veterans Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.

Lions pick up some impressive wins

For the second year in a row the Clear Lake Lions notched an impressive win over Waverly-Shell Rock.  Monday night the Lions used an effective defensive strategy and remained calm under pressure to post a 52-42 victory over the third ranked (4A) Go-Hawks.

The Lions, rated eighth in Class 3A, improved their record to 2-1 overall.
