Free Baseball Pitching Clinic in CL
There will be a free Lions Baseball Pitching Clinic for sixth and seventh
graders in the Clear Lake Middle School Gym on Feb 22, 23, 25, and 26, from
3:30-4:30. Any sixth grader is invited to attend the Monday/Tuesday sessions
(Feb 22-23) and any seventh grader is invited to the Thursday/Friday sessions
(Feb 25/26). Clear Lake baseball coaches and players will be there to help teach
any child interested in learning how to pitch. The only thing participants will
need to bring with them is a glove.
Disc Golf fundraiser planned
On Sunday, Feb. 21, a disc golf tournament will be held to benefit the
Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank. The tournament will be held at the Oppor-
tunity Village Disc Golf Course. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $20,
plus five canned goods for the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank. Free lunch will
be provided in addition to multiple side games.
DOA to host Mankato team Feb. 20
On Saturday, Feb. 20, The River City Dames of Anarchy Roller Derby
team from Mason City, Iowa, will host the Mankato Area Derby Girls from
Mankato, Minn. The event takes place at the North Iowa Events Center,
3700 4th St. SW, Mason City. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bout begins at
7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased by contacting the
North Iowa Events Center at 641-423-3811. Tickets are also available at the
door for $12. Ten percent of the bouts proceeds are going to the AFTD - The
Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
Permanent ice fishing shelter must be
removed by Feb. 20
Permanent ice shelters must be removed from all state-owned lands and
waters by February 20. Ice shelter owners are encouraged not to wait until the
last minute to get their shelter off the ice. If a shelter falls through the ice, the
owner is responsible for getting it out of the lake.
NIACC softball team signs five players
The NIACC softball team has signed five players to the national letter of
intents, including Garner-Hayfield-Ventura standout player Payton Bamrick.
Joining Bamrick are Pella Christian's Courtney Johannes, North Tama's Kodi
Hillman, Central Springs' Kelli Wilson and Mason City's Jenni King. Bam-
rick, an infielder, hit .386 with .526 slugging percentage. She also had eight
doubles and two home runs.
VFW holds Bean Bag Tournament
The VFW Post 4868 held their weekly Bean Bag Tournament on Wednesday,
Feb. 10. The winner of the Afternoon Singles Match was Dale Anderson and Dave
Carney was the runner-up. In the evening, two doubles matches were played.
Winners of the first match were Gordy Wiemann and Dave Carney. Winners
of the second match were Scott Amosson and Wayne Huntley. Wiemann and
Carney also won the doubles match on Feb. 3.
