The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 12.  Three individual wrestlers had a successful day, but as a team, the Cardinals struggled.

GHV placed sixth in the 10 team tournament with 91-points. MFL-Mar-Mac won the tournament with 236-points, followed by Nashua-Plainfield with 143-points.

“As a team we didn’t compete that well, as we had five open weights,” said Coach Cory Jenniges.

It was week of ups and downs for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team, as they dropped one game and won another.  The Cardinals moved to 3-1 in the Top of Iowa Conference, West Division.

West Hancock 79, GHV 64.

The undefeated West Hancock boys (3-0, 5-0) proved to be too much for GHV on Tuesday, Dec. 8.  The Eagles soared past the Cardinals, 79-64.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls dropped two Top of Iowa Conference match-ups last week, moving their record to 1-3 in the West Division.  The Cardinals are in a three-way tie for sixth place with Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme.

West Hancock 68, GHV 35

Johnny “John” J. Opat, age 53, of Rochester, Minn., died of cardiac amyloidosis on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary’s Campus, Rochester.

A mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 7, 2015, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rochester.  Memorials are preferred to the family and will be put towards amyloidosis research.
