The Clear Lake volleyball team opened its season at a tournament held in Clarion on Saturday. The Lions were handed two quick losses, but quickly turned things around and rattled off four straight wins.

GHV drops volleyball opener to North Iowa

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura volleyball team put up a good fight in their opening contest of the season against North Iowa on Thursday, Aug. 27, but they came up short in the four game match.

North Iowa opened strong with a 25-19 win in the first match.  The Cardinals dug deep in the second match and pulled off a close, 25-23, victory.  North Iowa picked up the next two wins, 25-22 and 25-20.

School Board election is Tuesday

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 8, for Regular School Board elections.  Three candidates are running unopposed for three seats on the Clear Lake School Board, while four persons are seeking two seats available on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Board.  This will be the first election since the consolidation of the G-H and Ventura School Districts.

Patriotic procession

The Vietnam Traveling Wall Memorial was escorted by a caravan of an estimated 400 motorcycles as it made its way to Operation LZ in Forest City over the weekend.  The hugely successful event was held to give an overdue welcome home to North Central Iowa Vietnam veterans.  Although the event was originally intended to cover nine counties, Vietnam veterans, friends and families from all over the county attended.  The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is a t
