Top ranked Lions roar through competition

The top ranked Clear Lake baseball team (2A) notched five wins last week over schools ranging in size from Class 1A to 4A.  Coach Seth Thompson said he suspects his team could lose their week one number one ranking, due to a pair of losses, but count on the Lions to keep challenging for the top spot.  They are currently 2-0 in the North Central Conference and 7-2 overall.

Clear Lake softball team struggling for a win

The Clear Lake softball team suffered four losses in four days last week, dropping their record to 0-7.

Iowa Falls-Alden 9, CL 1

The Lions pounded out 14 hits, but a strong start by the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets was too much to overcome.  They were defeated, 9-1.

All nine of the Cadets’ runs crossed home plate in the first inning.

  It was a busy week of ups and downs for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team.  They picked up some wins and some losses playing seven games last week.

The week started slow for the Cardinals.  They hosted Belmond-Klemme in a double header on Monday, June 1.  The Broncos won both games, 10-3, and 6-1.

North Union went on a scoring frenzy on Wednesday, June 3 and beat GHV, 11-1 on the Cardinals’ home field.

The game was close until the final two innings, with North Union only having a slight 3-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.  North Union scored four runs in each of the last two innings, Ryle Kozisek scored the Cardinals’ lone run in the seventh inning.

Fire department sets date to christen new fire and rescue boat

The Clear Lake Fire Department will christen its new fire and rescue boat and introduce those responsible for the incredibly generous donation.

Sooner or later, every angler will become acquainted with that sad statement.  You know the story.  You’ve just arrived at your favorite fishing water where everyone in the bait shop is absolutely raving about the vicious, no holds barred walleye feeding frenzy that occurred in this very spot - - - yesterday.
