CL girl’s BB team to participate in Iowa Pride Challenge Nov. 18

This year the Clear Lake High School Girls Basketball team has been awarded an Iowa Pride Scrimmage that will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The scrimmage is part of the Iowa Pride Challenge, in which schools participate in a local community service project of their choosing.

Cardinals dominate tournament

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura dominated its own tournament on Saturday.  The Cards defeated Central Springs 2-1 (21-11, 19-21, 15-9), Newman Catholic 2-0 (21-17, 21-17); Northwood-Kensett 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and North Iowa (21-13, 21-12) on their way to the championship match.  

 

School district re-hires football coach, with sanction

 

The Clear Lake School Board, on a 3-1 vote, has extended Fred Wieck a one-year contract to continue as its high school head football coach.  Wieck will sit out the opening weekend of the football season in the wake of a public intoxication conviction.

Public hearing scheduled for Surf district streetscape work

A pubic hearing has been scheduled for Monday, June 18, to receive public input on proposed streetscape improvements on North Shore Drive which will link the recently completed Three Stars Plaza and Buddy Holly Place with the historic Surf Ballroom.
    The City applied for a Transportation Enhancement grant in 2011 and was awarded $87,138 to construct the project. The cost of construction is conservatively estimated at approximately $200,000.

Clear Lake artist creates series of Surf Ballroom inspired works

    The Clear Lake Arts Center is sponsoring a special exhibit by artist Jaclyn Garlock.  Included in this exhibit is a recently completed significant series of paintings depicting people in and about the Historical Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.
