Slippery conditions send vehicles into I-35 ditches

 

(Pictured right) Weather is being blamed for a single vehicle accident Monday morning just north of Clear Lake on I-35.  Shala Strickland, 21, of Burkburnett, Texas, was southbound on I-35 when the vehicle she was driving apparently hit a patch of light snow.  

Need is great, but response is strong to The Giving Tree

 

The first week of the Giving Tree program has been very gratifying, but there is much work to be done.

The 23rd annual Giving Tree, displayed in the Mirror-Reporter office, started the holiday season with 198 ornaments representing the needs of local children and families. Sign-up forms for the Giving Tree were 

Men arrested following theft

 

An arrest has been made following a theft at an acreage north of Clear Lake.

Two Klemme men were arrested Wednesday, Oct. 31, for allegedly stealing items at 9050A 300th St., Clear Lake.  A citizen reported suspicious activity on the property to the Sheriff’s Department.

Arlo Victor Hoeft, 53, and Tony Lewis Baysinger, 49, were both charged with second degree theft, a Class D felony, according to a press release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.

Fire empties Clear Lake apartment building

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a fire in an eight-unit apartment building early Tuesday morning in Clear Lake. 

Residents at 2102 14th Ave. N. were evacuated as firefighters worked to extinguish an electrical fire in the ceiling of the apartment occupied by Trent Schmitt.  The report of the fire came into the Clear Lake dispatch at 4:03 a.m. Tuesday. There were no injuries. 

The apartment building is owned by Daniel Jackson, of Clear Lake.

Grant will provide second beach cleaner

 

A second beach cleaner will be added to the arsenal local conservationists use to reduce bacteria levels at swim beaches.

Clear Lake has been named as one of 12 grant recipients chosen by The Watershed Improvement Review Board.  The Board recently approved applications totaling $946,952 in grants to support projects that will improve water

The lake level remained steady at 

+0.72” above the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -21” below the weir.

Pride is running deep in Clear Lake baseball.  

The community and school district is, of course, proud of its State qualifying Lions.  And parents, well, that goes without saying.  But Clear Lake’s baseball team has a special groundswell of support.  A true brotherhood of the sport.

DNR responds to call at Farmer’s Beach

 

The long awaited warm weather, combined with a long holiday weekend, filled Clear Lake with activity.  But with the exception of an underage drinking incident at Farmer’s Beach still under investigation, it was a safe holiday on the lake, according to State Conservation Officer Ben Bergman.

Boater rescued from Clear Lake

 

A boater was rescued from Clear Lake after becoming exhausted swimming to his children who were tubing behind the boat early Saturday evening.
