More rain caused an increase in the lake level of 2.76.”  The lake is now -3.72” below the weir.

  This is a far cry from  -31.44” which it was when the lake froze over on Dec. 7, 2012.

 

City will pick up tree limbs Thursday

 

Workers from the City of Clear Lake will be moving through town Thursday, picking up tree limbs fallen as a result of last week’s snowstorm.  Residents should pile their downed limbs at the curb by 7:30 a.m. 

Thursday.  Pick-ups will not take place in alleys.  Length should be limited to 12-14-feet and diameter of the limbs should be less than six to eight-inches.  

Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb suggested the City schedule the special pick-up as a good gesture to its citizens.

Local singers take their talents to The Big Apple

Members of Una Vocis Choral Ensemble have returned to North Iowa.  The singers and their artistic director, Dennis Lee, spent five days and four nights in New York City preparing for their March 24 concert in Carnegie Hall.  

Weather delays water tower demo

Demolition work on the city’s downtown water tower was delayed this week due to weather.

Isler Demolition, of Michigan, had planned to begin work dismantling the vintage 1949 water tower this week, however forecasts for snow, ice and high winds caused the company to revise its schedule.

Small towns begin to form on the lake as ice fishing heats up

  A return to the deep freeze should send a lot of anglers to the ice this week. And they should be conscious of changing ice conditions.  Mild temperatures and rain have pounded away at what had been a pretty solid sheet of ice on lakes and backwaters. The deterioration is more apparent across the southern half of the state; with slow current winding through old stream beds.

City crews worked to relieve pressure from the ice at the end of the Main Avenue boat ramp Thursday after ice caused a heave in the concrete ramp.

Students tip their hats to classmate recovering from head injury

Students at Clear Lake Middle School and High School tipped their caps Tuesday to a fellow student currently homebound as the result of a head injury.
