CL preschoolers will move to Sunset School in 2015-16

The former Sunset View Elementary School will return to its roots next school year.  

Elementary Principal Mike Barkley met with the School Board Monday at its workshop session and told the group he recommends locating the district’s three pre-school classrooms at Sunset next school year.  There is simply not enough room at Clear Creek 

Elementary for the projected number of students enrolled in pre-school through grade five, he said.

Memorial mock-up moved to new location; Public comment encouraged

A mock-up of a proposed veteran’s memorial has been moved to a second potential location for the public to review.

Lawsuit filed against Clear Lake School District will go to trial in 2016

A lawsuit filed by the mother of an injured Clear Lake football player against the Clear Lake Community School District has been set for March 15, 2016. 

A court scheduling order filed Thursday states the trial is expected to last four to five days. 

Roxanne Hasfjord filed the lawsuit on behalf of her son, Austin, in Cerro Gordo County District Court. 

Clear Lake man killed in truck roll-over

A Clear Lake man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Humboldt County Wednesday, Dec. 17.  

The Iowa State Patrol reported that 39-year-old Richard Goscinski was eastbound on County Road C-20, east of Livermore, Iowa when he apparently lost control of his Yohn truck while negotiating a curve.  The vehicle rolled into the northwest ditch. 

Goscinski was pronounced dead at the scene. 

New library director expected to be named soon

The announcement of a new library director to succeed Jean Casey at the Clear Lake Public Library is expected soon.

Monday night, Clear Lake City Administrator Scott Flory said the search committee has concluded the interview process and it is anticipated that an appointment will be recommended by the committee, 

submitted for approval of the Board, and announced publicly at the next Library Board of Trustees meeting.

The Library Trustees are scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Air Choice One chosen to serve MC Airport

 Monday, the Department of Transportation awarded a two-year EAS contract to St. Louis based airline, Air Choice One.
Air Choice One is set to begin service out of the Mason City Municipal Airport in early November 2014. The area’s new air carrier is also introducing a new hub to the citizens of Mason City – Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Chicago O’Hare is the second largest international airport in the United States.
