Kenneth Enabnit, 64, of Clear Lake, died of natural causes on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center-

North Iowa in Mason City.  Funeral services will be held at a later date this year.  Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, Iowa, is handling funeral arrangements.

Nadine R. Girard, 84, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service was held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with Pastor Jeni Bohls of St. James Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Nadine’s name in care of her family.

Wrestling team places seventh in State Duals

The Clear Lake wrestlers placed seventh Wednesday in the State Duals in Des Moines. 

Clear Lake (23-4), the fifth seed in the Class 2A field, started the day matched against the number four seed, Creston-Orient Macksburg (16-0).  The Lions won five of the first six matches, but were defeated 36-32.

The season ended Saturday for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys at the hand of New Hampton, 68-42, in the District quarterfinal played at New Hampton.

“We had a tough task to knock off a very talented New Hampton team,” said GHV Coach Joe Albertson.  “We had to play hard, smart, and unselfish basketball to stay with them.”

Lions’ head coach resigns

The Clear Lake School Board accepted the resignation of Clear Lake varsity boys basketball Coach Kevin Kahler Monday night.

Kahler, who is in his eighth year as the Lions’ head coach, said Tuesday he had no comment about his resignation and promised to release a statement after the basketball season is over.

Kahler’s resignation was included in the School Board’s consent agenda Monday.  There was no discussion.

Roger M. Zirbel

Roger M. Zirbel, 68, of Raymond, Miss., formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 in Jackson, Miss.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Visitation will be one hour before the service.  The burial will take place at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Those who desire may leave memorials to the family.
