Chyann R. Banta

     Chyann Rynae Banta, age 15, of Forest City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 west of Forest City as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.  

     Funeral services for Chyann Banta were held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at the Garner Hayfield High School Auditorium with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating . Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery south of Forest City.

Tiffany J. Banta

     Tiffany Jean Banta, age 19, of Forest City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 west of Forest City as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.

Marcella Barr

Marcella Barr, 89, passed away Jan. 12, at Arbor View Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Edinburg, Texas. 

A  memorial service will be held for Marcella, on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Adobe Wells Park, 4901 Daffodil, McAllen, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Carr, and her son-in-law, Steve Carr, Adobe Wells; her granddaughter, Michelle Mark, Roswell, Ga.; her grandson, Robert Mark, Newnan, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Zimniak, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.     

Imogene Tifft

Imogene “Ileen” (Burns) Tifft, 82, of Greene, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at her home.  Memorial services were held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Saint Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, Iowa, with Pastor Roy Ott of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage, Iowa, officiating.   Inurnment was at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.   Memorials may be directed to the Ileen Tifft memorial fund in care of the family.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com

Lions win Sectionals; send nine wrestlers to Districts

The Clear Lake wrestling team once again appears to be peaking at the right time.  The Lions won Saturday’s Sectional Tournament by 65 points over Forest City.

GHV girls capture NIC Championship

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls continue to roll, as they collected three more wins and clinched the outright NIC title with a victory over Newman on Monday.  The Cardinals moved their record to 13-1, 17-3, as they head into Regional competition.  

Cardinals move NIC record to 6-6

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, moving their North Iowa Conference record to 6-6 and the overall record to 9-9.

Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb announced Monday night he is appointing Police Lieutenant Rex McChesney as interim police chief.  He will lead the department after Chief Greg Peterson retires April 30.
