Cardinals bring home championships from home cross country meet

It was busy week of running for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams, as they competed in two meets.

CL cross country team runs at Algona

The placements didn’t tell the whole story for the Clear Lake cross country teams competing at Algona Monday, Sept. 30.

Coach Nick DiMarco said he felt his team ran well in the field of 17 teams.  The Lion boys were fifth, just missing out on a fourth place trophy, while the girls were 15th overall.

Rodney Freeman

     Rodney L. Freeman, 58, of Clear Lake, passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at his home with his wife by his side.   The immediate family was there to send him to the Lord after his courageous battle with cancer.  Pastor Will Hunsaker was also at his home.  

Loretta Cotton

Loretta (Hagen) Cotton, age 88, died peacefully on Oct. 3, 2013 in Parker, Colo. 

     A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wayside Chapel at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Sean McRoberts officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.  Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 from 5 p.m. until

The weather was beautiful and the crowds were large at the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce’s annual Harvest Festival 

LAKE LEVEL

Recent rain caused an increase in the lake level of .24” to its new

 reading of -6.60” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -30.12” below the weir.

 

Police chief responds to candidate’s criticism

The Clear Lake City Council handled a routine agenda Monday night, but the meeting ended on a pointed note as Police Chief Greg Peterson responded to criticism his department received from At-Large City Council candidate Peter Lagios.

Police catch burglar in Payless Foods

 

Clear Lake police officers responding to an alarm at Payless Foods around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Sept. 29, found 30-year-old Chughtai Raheel inside the office area. 

Raheel, who resides at 2400 South Shore Drive, Lot #51, Clear Lake, surrendered to officers when confronted.

Police Chief Greg Peterson said no forced entry to the store was found and evidence at the scene indicates that Raheel may have entered the store during business hours and hid inside the building until he assumed it was safe to come out.
