CL Police make arrest in wake of July incident

 

A Mason City man has been arrested on willful injuries charges stemming from a July 6 incident in Clear Lake.

Police Chief Greg Peterson reported that  at approximately 11:18 p.m. July 6  an altercation arose between two groups of 

Margaret Hansen

 

Margaret Jean Hansen, 91, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Mondy, Sept 2, 2013 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.

A visitation will be held Thursday, 2 – 4 p.m., with a time of sharing memories at 3 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Mary C. Barragy

 

     Mary C. Barragy, 69, of Mason City, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at her home in Mason City.  

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at Epiphany Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City.  Following the Mass, cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be held at a future date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Ingebord H. Sell

 

     Ingeborg “Inge” H. Sell, 93, 1610 Highland Dr., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

     Do to her wishes, she was a cremated and there will be no service at this time.

     Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or Central Gardens.

     She was born on June 17, 1920 in Pforzheim, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Paula (Ruecker) Jaschinowski.  

Clifford Stephenson

 

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 for Clifford Wayne Stephenson.  Memories to share are encouraged at the 11 a.m. service at Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Clifford, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Mohawks stumble on Lion’s Field

 

Effective adjustments, probably combined with an impassioned halftime speech, lifted Clear Lake to a 41-20 victory over Mason City Friday night in the season opener for both teams.  

Cardinals pound the Eagles

 

It was a good night to be a Cardinal, as Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (1-0) showcased a well-rounded team in a 56-0 route of the West Hancock Eagles (0-1) Friday night on the Cardinal field. 

LAKE LEVEL

 

The lake level was measured as

 -2.52 inches below the weir on Tuesday, Sept. 3.  The new mark represents a loss of 1.68 inches from a week ago. Last year at this time the lake measured -24.72” below the weir.

CL volleyball team opens season at Clarion Tournament

 

The Clear Lake volleyball team got its season off to a good start, going 2-3 in match play and 6-6 in sets at the Clarion Volleyball Tournament played Saturday.

The Lions posted wins over Northeast Hamilton (21-11, 21-15) and Eagle Grove (21-10, 21-10).  Clear Lake opened with a 22-20 win against Clarion-Goldfield, then dropped the second game 21-15 and fell in the third, 15-11.  A third and deciding game was also needed against CAL-Latimer.  CAL won the first two, 15-11, 22-20; the Lions dominated the third, 21-11.

Incumbent Second Ward Councilman, Mayor announce re-election plans

 

Clear Lake Second Ward Councilman Tony Nelson and Mayor Nelson Crabb each announced their plans Tuesday to seek re-election.  Both men are seeking second terms.
