Pitzen, Loux and Bartlett earn All-North Central Conference honors

 

Three Clear Lake softball players have received All-North Central Conference recognition.

Senior Kaitlyn Pitzen was a First Team All-NCC selection as an infielder.  Pitzen played in 27 games during the season and compiled a .410 batting average.  Her 34 hits included three doubles and 10 RBIs.  She had an on-base percentage of .424 and a slugging percentage of .446.

Clear Lake Mayor ‘leaning toward’ re-election bid

 

Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb said he is leaning toward seeking re-election, but is not quite ready to make a formal announcement.

Lake supporters told ‘the work is not over’

 

Members of the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake received outstanding news about the condition of the lake at their annual picnic held Friday.  However, the group was cautioned to remain vigilant in its efforts to continue to protect Clear Lake.

New trail highlights opportunities at 12th Avenue Outdoor Recreation Area

“If you build it, they will come” is a line made famous in “The Field of Dreams,” a movie set in Iowa.

Well, it’s not a ball diamond created in a corn field, but a new recreation area in Clear Lake is taking off, thanks to the recent construction of a trail meandering through it.

     Krzysztof Wincenty Lubicz Miszewski, 90, 37 Addison Street, Nottingham, UK, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Mason City Hospital while staying with his son, Jan, in Clear Lake.

Delva M. Canady

 

     Delva Mae Canady (Dee), 92, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Elkhorn, Neb.  A service celebrating her life will be held Aug. 17, 2013 at Reichmuth Funeral Home, 21901 W. Maple Road, Elkhorn, Neb.  Pastor Bill Ritter will be officiating and a reception will follow the service.

Wanda J. McLaughlin

 

     Wanda J. McLaughlin, 58, of Hanlontown, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

     Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at Epiphany Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach and the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling as Concelebrants.  Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

     Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Wanda’s name in care of her family.

Donald Thompson

 

Donald O. Thompson, 86, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2013 at his South Shore home with his wife of 67 years, Barbara, son, John, and daughter-in-law, Colleen, at his side.  

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  

Pastor Dean Hess will be officiating, joined by members of Don’s family, Pastors Matt Larson and Kally Elliott.  It will be a Celebration of Life and a witness to God’s glory.
