3A brackets announced

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the brackets for boys basketball post-season play.

Clear Lake begins the tournament trail against Hampton-Dumont on Monday, Feb. 21. The Lions (14-5) will host the Bulldogs (11-10) in a 7 p.m. game.  The winner will advance to take on either Waverly-Shell Rock or Webster City on Thursday, Feb. 24, in Clear Lake.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. that night.

Stacy Doughan thinks this might be the first time she has ever wished for cold weather.  And although she chuckles when she says it, she’s not kidding.  

The Chamber of Commerce is ready to host Clear Lake’s popular Color the Wind kite festival on Saturday.  All they need is for Mother Nature to cooperate for a few more days.

Trio jailed on multiple charges linked to local crimes

Three people have been arrested for ongoing criminal conduct and a plethora of other charges in connection to recent crimes around Clear Lake.

Micah Price, 37, of Cedar Rapids, Misty Buckley, 41, of Clear Lake, and Tania Kliven, 45, of Clear Lake, were each booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Police said the three are connected to vehicle burglaries, theft of motor vehicles and credit card fraud in recent weeks.

Supervisors approve changes to districts

On a 2-1 vote, the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved a redistricting plan for new supervisor districts starting in 2023.

The Legislative Services Agency took over the creation of new county supervisors districts across Iowa to correlate with a new state law. 

•The new First District will include all of Mason City’s Third Ward, Ward Two Precinct Two, and Ward Four Precincts Two and Three.

Linda S. Kemmerer

Linda Sue (Gossman) Kemmerer, 63, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at her home surrounded by family and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held from 4-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake.

A graveside inurnment will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center at approximately 12:30 p.m., following Mark’s inurnment.

In lieu of customary remembrances, Linda’s family suggests memorial contributions to the Cerro Gordo Humane Society.
