Lake aerators turned on

Officials with the Iowa DNR remind lake users that the winter aeration system is now operating on Clear Lake.  The aerators, designed to reduce the probability of winter fish kill, are located on the east shore in front of the water treatment plant and the north shore near the pump station west of Venetian Village.  

Clear Lake man facing kidnapping charges

A Clear Lake man is facing charges of felony kidnapping after an incident Dec. 19 that spanned multiple counties.

Thyago Miranda, 31, was arrested following an incident that began just before midnight when he allegedly forced a woman into his vehicle and drove her to Worth County.

Jack F. Miller

Jack Frederick Miller, 82, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Fertile Church of Christ, 3493 Eagle Ave., Fertile, with the Rev. Ken Olson and Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake.

Per Milly’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., with the Rev. Ryan Langner officiating. Inurnment will be at Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City, at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

CL girls pound IF-A, 50-17; move record to 4-0 in NCC

The Clear Lake girls basketball team headed into the holiday break on a high note, as they toppled the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets, 50-17, on Dec. 21.

The Lions, ranked seventh in Class 3A, held IF-A to a mere two-points in the first half and reserves kept the pressure on in the second half.  Meanwhile the Lion offense was steady, scoring 19 points in the first quarter and holding a 34-2 lead at halftime.
