It was a big week for local wrestlers to take to the mats at home.  Clear Lake hosted Humboldt in a North Central Conference dual meet Thursday, then welcomed seven teams to a local invitational Saturday.

The Lions opened the new year with a conference dual against Humboldt. The Wildcats dominated the event, 65-6.

Lions rack up two more wins

The Lions effectively shook the dust of a two-week break and got 2022 off to a great start with wins over Webster City and Forest City Friday and Saturday.  Clear Lake is now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the North Central Conference.

The Lions are home for their next two contests.  NCC foes St. Edmond (1-4, 4-5) and Algona (1-4, 4-6) come to town Friday and Tuesday.

The Clear Lake girls remained in control in the North Central Conference with a win over Webster City Friday night, but 15th ranked Forest City knocked off the seventh ranked Lions, 62-46, Saturday.  Clear Lake is 5-0 in the NCC and 6-2 overall.  This week they host St. Edmond (0-6, 0-9) Friday and Algona (3-2, 4-6) Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Hotel opens its doors

In advance of its Friday, Jan. 7 opening, Clear Lake City Council members were treated to a tour of the new Fairfield by Marriott Hotel in Clear Lake. Ground was broken in June 2020 for the project.  It is the first hotel built in Clear Lake in this century.

The 84 room hotel features an indoor pool and 5,400 square foot meeting/conference space. It is located in the city’s new Courtway Park Development Subdivision just east of Interstate 35 off of Highway 122. -Reporter photos.
