Celebrating the school year

The end of the school year Friday, May 15, was marked in similar ways.  (Above) Clear Lake High School’s Class of 2020 paraded through the community, drawing cheers from those along the route around the lake.  Almost all of the class’s 100 seniors participated in the parade, which was organized by teachers and parents.  The Clear Lake Police Department led the students’ vehicles down Main Avenue and around the lake, finishing at Lions Field.

Newspaper will produce Memorial Day program

The Clear Lake Memorial Day program, scheduled for Monday, May 25, has been cancelled due to the uncertainties related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, the Mirror-Reporter has made arrangements with members of V.F.W. Post 4868 and Clear Lake Schools to film a variety of Memorial Day messages and activities typically associated with the local program.

No decision has been made, but City Administrator Scott Flory told the City Council Monday “it certainly doesn’t look good” for the opening of the city’s Aquatic Center this summer.

Flory said the city will hold off from making a determination about the pool until the governor makes an announcement about restrictions which are currently in place for such facilities.

Iowans can now get a haircut, as Governor Kim Reynolds lifted restrictions on businesses while the number of COVID-19 cases start to level statewide.

On Wednesday, May 13, Governor Reynolds issued a new proclamation to continue the Public Health Disaster Emergency.
