Citywide Garage Sale called off

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter will not sponsor its previously announced Citywide Garage Sale scheduled for the weekend of May 23.

The decision comes after consulting with Cerro Gordo Public Health officials, who do not recommend the sales at this time.

The Mirror-Reporter will re-evaluate its other four scheduled Citywide sale dates (June 20, July 18, Aug. 22 and Sept. 19) and will make announcements in the weeks leading up to each sale.

School year will end May 15 for CL students

The unusual school year will come to a close Friday, May 15, for students in the Clear Lake School District.

The School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to make May 15 the final day of on-line learning for students.  Teachers will be done one week later, on May 22.

“Our students have been utilizing on-line learning since March 16 — two months is a lot,” said Superintendent Doug Gee.

Not much has gone as planned for Clear Lake High School seniors this spring, but the school district isn’t ready to give up on its scheduled May 17 commencement ceremony just yet.

Acting on the recommendation of CLHS Principal Chris Murphy, the School Board voted Tuesday to hold commencement Sunday, May 17, if the gathering is allowed by the State.  June 21 and July 19 were set as alternate dates.

Providing inspiration

Terry McCarl, Intern Pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel in Clear Lake, was pleasantly surprised to find members of the congregation in their seats Sunday morning.  McCarl said church members, such as Kristi and Kevin Sholly (back) and Brent and Linda Scarrow (front) made likenesses of themselves and placed them throughout the worship center late Saturday night, providing him with a smile and extra inspiration to deliver his message using a livestream format.-Submitted photo.
