Local runner records 100-mile trek

Dave Callison, of Ventura, proved that hard work and determination pay off at any age.  Callison recently competed in the Prairie Spirit 100-mile ultra-marathon in Ottawa, Kan.  Callison finished first in his age group, 50-59, and was seventh overall with a time of 21 hours and 12 minutes.

Four Clear Lake firefighters tested their skills in a fun and rewarding way.

Aaron Forsythe, Aaron Ruggles, Chris Wessels and Justin Becthold raced up the stairs of four downtown buildings in Des Moines as participants in the American Lung Association’s “Fight For Air Climbs.”  The group was fully outfitted in their CLFD turnout gear, as well as carrying self-contained breathing apparatus.

Lake Time Brewery, in Clear Lake, holds the top spot in a list of the 50 fastest growing small and independent craft brewing companies of 2018.  The Brewers Association (BA), a not-for-profit trade group representing small and independent craft brewers, released its second annual list last week.  Lake Time Brewery, owned by Bob Rolling, was ranked number one among the 27 states represented.

Hoop it Up winner

Congratulations to Diane Michaelis, from Clear Lake.  She was the winner in our “Hoop It Up” college basketball tournament challenge.  Diane correctly chose Virginia as the winner of the National Championship game, helping her to earn 84 out of a possible 128 points.

Woman jailed after hotel room is ransacked

A Mason City woman is under arrest after being accused of trashing a Clear Lake hotel room and being found with drugs.

Jennifer Lindquist, 32, is accused of breaking furniture, the window and an air unit while yelling and screaming out the window.  She is also accused of throwing articles out the window at the America’s Best Value Inn at 1306 North 25th St. early Wednesday morning, April 3.
