Bowling for Blake fundraiser planned

The 6th Annual Bowling For Blake Scholarship Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, from 11 a.m.-Midnight and on Sunday, Dec. 31, 3 9.m.-10 p.m.

Lions off and running

The Clear Lake boys are off and running in the 2017-18 season.  The Lions earned victories in their opening games against West Fork, Hampton-Dumont and dropped a hard-fought contest with Charles City in the past week.

A 20-4 run propelled the Lions to an 86-82 win in their season-opener on the road against perennial Class 1A power West Fork.

The third ranked (3A) Clear Lake girls have jumped out to a 4-0 record.  The Lions added two more wins to their total last week, topping West Fork in a non-conference game and Hampton-Dumont in their North Central opener.

After a week-long layoff, the Lions are at home Friday night, Dec. 8, to take on Algona.  Tuesday, Dec. 12, they will be at Clarion-Goldfield.

The third ranked (3A) Clear Lake girls have jumped out to a 4-0 record.  The Lions added two more wins to their total last week, topping West Fork in a non-conference game and Hampton-Dumont in their North Central opener.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys had one small stumble this week as they cruised to three wins and suffered one buzzer-beater loss.

The Cardinals opened the 2017-18 season with a big win on the road over North Iowa on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

“The first game is always exciting and unpredictable,” said Coach Joe Albertson.  “The guys played aggressive, but there were moments when things got a little wild.”

The GHV girls are hoping to build on the success they had Monday night, when they opened thee 2017-18 season with a 67-58 win victory over Charles City.

“It is a great way to start the season with a win and hopefully we can continue to improve on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.

CL grapplers knock off fourth rated Dubuque at St. Ansgar Tournament

The Clear Lake wrestling team showed they are quick learners.  After starting out the season Tuesday, Nov. 28, with duals against Belmond-Klemme and Lake Mills, the Lions made a strong showing at a St. Ansgar Tournament Saturday, knocking off fourth rated Dubuque Wahlert on their way to a 5-0 day.

“The wrestlers improved greatly from Tuesday.  All the skills we worked on throughout the week showed,” said Coach Mike Lester.
