Lions drop three; rebound for a win

The Clear Lake boys soccer team had a busy and challenging week.  The Lions dropped their first three matches, but rebounded to finish the week with a win.

Tuesday April 18, the Lions played host to the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks.

“Typically WSR is a very dominate soccer club, so they are a great contest when we decided to compete,” said Clear Lake Coach Matt Anderson.  “This year we choose not to compete.”

The Lions went 0-2 at the Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament Saturday, April 22. “Waverly’s weekend tournament was a great opportunity to compete against some very good teams,” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “We were growing and learning as the match progressed.”

Solon topped Clear Lake in the first match of the day, 9-2.

The Lions went 0-2 at the Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament Saturday, April 22. “Waverly’s weekend tournament was a great opportunity to compete against some very good teams,” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “We were growing and learning as the match progressed.”

Solon topped Clear Lake in the first match of the day, 9-2.

CL boys tennis team moves record to 5-2

The Clear Lake boys tennis team sandwiched two wins around a loss last week, putting their record at 5-2.

The Lions began the week at Webster City and stung the Lynx 9-0 on Monday, April 17.  That match was followed by a trip to Boone, where the undefeated Toreadors won 7-2.

“Boone is undefeated (7-0) on the year.  They have won 27 straight regular season matches,” explained Coach Rich Peters.  “We had three matches that were very close that we were unable to win.”

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team traveled to Iowa Falls on Monday, April 17. A talented Cadet team handed the Cardinals a 2-0 loss.  Last season IF-A was 4-0 and they returned four of their top five players.

“I thought we played well again,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “Gains are being made every day in practice and in games.”

It was a full week of golf for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team, as they competed in four meets.

On Monday, April 17, the squad competed at Rice Lake.  The Cardinals won the meet with a 172.  Forest City was only two strokes behind with a 174 and Lake Mills ended with a 207.
